FCP generated text aliased + PSD files issues

Have a look in the Browser> Pixel aspect ratio. Probably you have it “Square’. I think you need to set it as HD (1440×1080). Not sure about this (I do not work with HDV) but I think can be the problem.

Hi, thanks but this has nothing to do with my issues.

I am monitoring the project through the Matrox MXO in HD. What I see is what the signal is. Also, there is no way the letters look like garbage because I’m using HDV. The letters are ugly even unrendered and if FCP can’t create a well formed letter in an HDV sequence then it’s titler is garbage because I can create easily do this in both Avid and Vegas.

If you’re using the FCP title tool you’re right, it is garbage. The tool everyone uses in FCP is called Boris Title 3D. Its there — it gets installed when FCP is installed.

Maybe if it could generate a letter properly you wouldn’t hear a constant barrage, dumbass.

The problem is not that I don’t know how to use the text generator, it’s that the text generator doesn’t work. And by the way I just tried in Boris, exact same thing.

I understand that to a wedding videographer who probably never properly monitors HD this might look good. But seeing it as is at 1920X1080 it,s unbelievably inept.

David is trying to help you. He doesn’t need abuse from you.

What format HDV are you working in? How are your Photoshop files created? Multilayer or flatten with transparency? What format are the files? How are you assigning the alpha channel?

If you’re using the Matrox MXO, what resolution have you set the second monitor to? Is it set to show the image at 100% or scaled to the monitor? Are you looking at the rendered output?

Here’s a flash. People have been making broadcast titles with this application for years. You think maybe you need to learn how to use the application?

As Will Shakespeare once wrote, “The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves…”

Herb, rather than alienating yourself and insulting every FCP user on the planet as well as those here on the Cow who you might well rely upon in the future to save your ass, just have a friend show you the tricks under the hood of FCP.

FCP has similarities to Avid, Vegas and all other NLEs, but as your post clearly points out to those who are more familiar with the app than yourself, it has many differences as well. So, you can either struggle to find those differences and learn how to deal with them all on your own, or you can accept the fact that others more familiar with the FCS apps might actually know some tricks that you don’t and let them show you the way quickly and painlessly.

FCP is a very powerful application in use by wedding videographers as well as feature filmmakers as sophisticated as Walter Murch and the Coen brothers. I doubt your niche is so special that you don’t fall somewhere in between…

Actually, my second post to you would qualify me as a “wiseass.” A dumbass is a person who only thinks they know what they’re talking about.

BTW, if you put a slight shadow and a slight edge on text created in Boris 3D I believe you will see that aliasing dissapear. Oh, and remember to keep it all on even numbered scan lines when moving in the Motion tab as well. Boris 3D does a fine job at 1080i or at any other resolution once you learn to use it, however there are also additional tools in the FCS such as LiveType and Motion that have subpixel animation and such if you need it.
