Ok, I’m used to seeing vague errors like this in Windows, but FCP? Here are my details:

    FCP 6.0.6
    Mac Pro v10.5.8
    2×2.8GHz Quad-Core Xeon
    2GB RAM

I’m not sure exactly when this started happening, but whenever I import an mp4 file, I get this “General Error”. I can play the file just fine using the QT Player, so it doesn’t appear to be corrupted. I’d post more info if I had it. Any suggestions here? Thanks a lot.

Wait, there IS more! I can scrub the clip in the Canvas with the mouse fine, but when I try to double-click it into the Viewer, I get the “General Error” box followed by a “Error: Out of Memory” box.

I know 2GB isn’t exactly a lot, but can this really be a low memory thing? I’ve cut hour-long projects in the past without that message.

MP4…that isn’t an editable format. You need to convert it to an editing codec, like ProRes. Use MPEG STREAMCLIP…it’s free.

Hey Shane, looks like I signed off this one too soon. (I already have MPEG Streamclip and have used it before, so I figured this one was done) Is there a better forum to ask a question about Streamclip? I don’t see one in the list of forums.

The Help menu that comes with MPEG Streamclip is one of the best help menus of any application.
you won’t need any other help.

    Cheers
