    Hello

I’m trying to build a “heat wave” effect in Final Cut Pro, something similar to heat distortions coming from hot pavement, I know this can be done with displacement maps in After Effects, but I’m restricted to Final Cut Pro, so if any of you pro editors out there have any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this “heat wave” effect using FCP it would be really really helpful. Thanks 🙂

    How about the ripple transition?

The Distort>Displace filter doesn’t play back your matte in the clip well, so it won’t work as a heat effect.
This means that this filter is not really funcitoning as a true displace filter.

If you have “Telly’s FX” which come FREE with my book, “Motion Graphics and Effects in Final Cut Pro”
(designed by Nattress), then you will have a fully functioning displace filter with which you can make
    such a heat effect.

    Check it out.

Well I’ve figured out how to do it… import into Motion and Wham! heat wave with displacement maps in no time at all ^_^ thanks for all your input. Cheers,
