Hello to all…I’ve seen many postings concerning using a MBP to edit
    with fcp…My question is this… I cut mostly :30 spots…lots of layers…mostly 10 bit SD right now…moving to HD going forward…
You can see my current specs in my sig…just purchased the
3.06 17″MBP with 4 gigs ram…will be using sonnet pro express34 with some form of 2TB esata raid…to replace my old G5…thoughts?
I think it should work fine…what do you all think…Shane interested in your thoughts…all others any comments will be appreciated…

As long as you work with PRORES, then it will be possible. You will need a capture device that works with your laptop though…Matrox MXO2, MXO2 LE, MXO2 mini….AJA IO HD, IO Express. And then a good raided drive. With the MXO2 and IO Express options, you have to use firewire. Only the IO HD connects via firewire leaving the Express34 port open for eSATA and miniSAS connections.

But multiple layers? Laptops will lack the horsepower to do this quickly. A tower will be better and faster.
