    I have a problem.
my FCP is failing to render effects from the glow folder including daze, lights rays, outer glow, ext. I am editing on a macbook pro with 2.6 GHz intel core 2 duo and 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRA. The graphics card is a GeForce 8600m GT. the footage im working with is DV NTSC anamorphic. nothing big. i have rendered these same effects many times before on this computer. Last week there was some IT guy that messed around with the systems at my work and now our projects are having serious problems working Please HELP!

Search every other FCP forum you know of for these terms:
hardware cannot render specific size and depth
    failed to render
    red error screen

There have been two major causes in the last few weeks. some tweak in the OS, QT, or FCP that has suddenly made the specs on your existing card invalid or you have two cards and are using a second monitor plugged into the second card.

Try Motion. You shoudl be able to render these effects in Motion which uses a different FxPlug processing architecture for the same effects that FCP fails. It’s a stupid workaround but it will get the project out the door.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Hi, I have the same problem with subtitles. Its the first time that I have this issue with the filter outer glow. Its been a week that I finished a project. The translator send me an xml with subtitles and I render it. No problem till here. After that another project comes and I take one subtitle from the previews project and I do copy paste of the subtitle. After few more copy pastes its unable to render the subtitles. Its says “the effect outer glow failed to render at the requested size and depth”
The second project with the issue is smaller, has less subtitles and less material.

My ram is 12gb, I dont think its my hardware.

    Fix it in Pre.
