FCP external hard drive for 7D
I’m buying the 2.66 i7 17inch macbook pro to edit canon 7d video on. Any recommendations on external hard drives? I don’t really understand the difference between raid 0 and raid 1. Will the caldigit vr or vr mini do? and are there any better or more affordable external hard drives then this?
Plus, I hear people talking about 1080p footage compressed or uncompressed. What is the 7D and does it require a big or better hard drive to run this?

The Caldigit VR is great for this. But, if you can’t afford it, go to https://www.otherworldcomputing.com and look at the Mercury Elite Pro drives. A two drive RAID-0 will be faster, and better for the ProRes files you’ll be converting the CAnon footage too.

YOu will not be working with uncompressed video. That requires a MacPro and a seriously large and fast RAID. Hardly anyone works uncompressed anymore. ProRes is what you’ll be using. The Canon shoots H.264 that needs to be converted. Here’s the workflow:
