Did a bunch of searching and I’m not finding the answer I need here…

I have a client who wants to edit their own multicamera shoot, using Vegas 8 (or possibly Premiere). As I use FCP I’m looking to output a midrange-quality (better than DV) format that he can import and edit directly. Total footage is around 6 hours so we’re trying to avoid any sort of duplication/transcoding on his end, and for hardware reasons I don’t think going uncompressed SD is viable.

Can anyone suggest a good quality format/codec for the files I supply him? I hope to do the capture/conversion in realtime through my Kona LHe but if I have to use some third party software to transcode I can do that… as long as it works on his end.

    Thanks much,

    -Adam

I edited a feature length movie on Vegas 7. I used CineForm intermidiate files for HD, worked out fine.
CineForm (cineform.com) now has available conversions for both the PC and the MAC. So, the same intermidiate files can be in MOV or AVI format thus importable to both the MAC and the PC. Look up CineForm’s website and see if they could be helpful to your project. It’s a very infomative site.

Thanks much for the reply! We were hoping to avoid converting/transcoding mostly for storage reasons, so at this point my client is considering either buying Raylight to enable DVCPRO codecs in Vegas, or just switching to Premiere Pro.

I was hoping we could find some other good midrange codec (better than DV, smaller than uncompressed) but so far if there is one it’s eluding us, so DVCPRO50 it is!

    Thanks,
