I have completed a 16 minute project using FCP 5.1. I had about 20 GB free, but as the project was finishing the save process an error appeared saying I was out of disk space. I am using uncompressed 8-bit 48kh DV NTSC. Any suggestions,or do I just need to free up more space? THANKS!

you say Uncompressed, but then DV. Uncompressed 8 bit footage can EASILY eat up 20GB in no time. Make sure you’re exporting as DV

Are there other projects on your computer? Go into the Final Cut scratch disk and erase the render files for those other projects. You’ll have to re-render them later, but for the time being it will free up some space.

Just make sure you’re then exporting to the same hard drive that your scratch disc is on.

8-bit uncompressed takes a lot more than 1GB per minute, so you definitely need more disk space. If your original footage was DV and you ingested through firewire, then there’s really no advantage to saving it as uncompressed.
