FCP export of MXF for Pro Tools
Hello!
I’m trying to export a sequence from Final Cut 7 to Pro Tools, as an MXF.
– I use Export – Sony XDCAM in the “File” menu, and it works fine, I get the MXF file I want.
Trouble starts when I try to open it in Pro Tools, a pop-up with the following message appears:
“The selected video clip’s compression level is incompatible.”
Does anyone know a workaround for this problem?

Hi Tino,
I have no much experience with MFX files, but I have been having a look to the MFX options of exporting from FC via Export to XDCAM.
I guess that Protools can not cope with the codec, size or data rate of your clip.
I find out that MFX supports DV.
Just drop your movie in a DV sequence and Export to XDCAM MFX.
You need to have 4 channels audio.

I have already tried that and I’m sorry to say it doesn’t work.
Have you got it to work in Pro Tools with these export settings you mention?

No.
My only experience with MFX is to give EX-1 QT files to my PC mates.
No idea if this may be a problem with the MFX files or a problem with Protools.
Check if the MFX you have exported can be open with a video application (PP, AVID,..) or with VideoLan.

Why MXF? Don’t you mean OMF?

It is a MXF I need. It’s for the sound department, and I have already made a AAF for them, but they are asking for a MXF aswell.

You need to find out exactly what they need as MXF is just a container. It’s like saying, “Give me a Quicktime Movie”. It could mean anything. I highly doubt they want an XDCam MXF file.
