Gen error while rendering an HD sequence, it’s a reopened project from a month ago, recaptured the media, hit rerender and after a couple of minutes the Gen error pops up.

    I’ve tried the following:
    – trashing prefs
    – creating a new sequence, copying+pasting everything over
    – setting a different scratch disk (plenty of space)
    – used Render Manager to delete all render files
    – tried isolating a bad file by rendering out chunks of the sequence at a time, still got same effect no matter what chunk I selected

I’m running fresh out of ideas and this General Error still haunts me! What else could it possibly be?

Could be a couple of things.

Does it always stop at the same place?

Select All. Toggle visibility on the entire time line (Control-B).

    Save. Now try and render.

Let me know if this works.

    Just a hunch.

Have you updated any plugin packs since this project was last opened? If so, and your clips referencing those plugins, you may need to re-apply them.
I have seen this cause some funk once or twice before.

I would start by the old “Save as..” and save with a different name.

It appears to happen at the same progress point, regardless if I’m trying to render out the whole sequence or just a chunk of it.
Tried the “Save As” trick, and disabling/enabling visibility on all clips. No dice.
I may need an exorcist to come in and look at this, because I’m stumped and the client needs this video.

Alright, so what’s happening at that point? is there an effect? A bad piece of media, can you recapture that one clip? Take a deeper look at the timeline at that point.

It doesn’t appear to be any particular clip. I’ve gone through the sequence chunk by chunk, setting Ins/Outs and then attempting to render it out in segments to see if there was a meddling cilp bogging things up, but the gen error occurs everytime.

Does this only happen with this sequence?

Starting to think you might have bad ram or something.

Im having this exact problem now. General error 34 during rendering. Was this ever resolved as to why it was happening? Did the same troubleshooting you did as well.

Have you tried trashing your preferences?
