I can’t believe you can’t change the sequence settings after a proj. is created. I have been creating a new proj. and inporting another proj. to up-rez my sequences. What a pain. FCP will let you change the sequence setting all day long.
Also, when working in a timeline full of effects and gfx and it is un-rendered – I want to play the audio in the timeline for timing sake. Premier tries to play the video and studders. This is in a uncompressed proj. With a DV proj. it does almost play unrendered stuff but I want it to play the audio tracks w/o probs.
    Sorry, done venting.

Question, can u change the length of a default trans?

    Thanks.

[Chris] “Question, can u change the length of a default trans?”

On my system, PPro sacrifices smooth video playback to keep the audio going. If you have conformed audio in use in the project, that may affect the audio playback. You could try:

    1. Change the Playback Settings so that RT playback doesn’t occur on the desktop.
    2. Close all your monitors and use the spacebar to start and stop timeline playback.
    3. Poke out all of the video track eyeballs so that only the audio plays back.
    4. Load your audio clip into the source monitor so that only the waveform is displayed.

Any, all or none of these may work for you.

The reason that Premiere Pro does not allow you to change the settings is that in Premiere 6.5 there were many many complaints about problems related to settings. People changed things and could not get back to a working setting.

It is pretty simple to import a project into a new project in order to change settings, and it is the compromise that was settled on.

There are various differences between FCP and Premiere Pro. You’ll find Premiere Pro has advantages as well as disadvantages. Learn the product and then you’ll be a lot happier. Review all of the preferences and project settings.

I’m a FCP and a Premiere editor and certainly there are advantages and disadvantages in both programs. However due to the huge configurations available in the PC world it is easy to blame Premiere for a jerky performance. Anyways audio conforming or whatever it is called in premiere pro 2 is a really pain in the *ss no matter what configuration you have.
