Transferred some 35mm footage to HDCAM 23.98 and
captured via SR or HDCAM deck. Not sure of the exact
deck settings, but captured through FCP 6.02 at AJA
    1080psf 23.98 Uncompressed 8-bit.

The captured clips play fine in quicktime, but the
timecode plays at 30fps with each fourth frame number
skipped (ie 1,2,3,5). When the clip is dropped into a
FCP sequence (1080/23.98/Uncomp 8/etc), it plays fine,
but once the sequence is rendered out, it duplicates
    every fourth frame.

Further, when the clip is dropped in a 720p sequence
(or final format) and rendered, every fourth frame is
    duplicated.

    Some thoughts…

    – Is this a pulldown issue from an incorrect capture?

    – I tried a reverse telecine in cinema tools, but I
got an error message saying there were dropped frames.
I went through w/ the reverse anyway and the clip
worked, but only a portion of it rendered.

    – What is the best solution considering we have a
completed offline edit and would like to avoid
    reconnecting the media from scratch?

    Any help would be fantastic!

    Thanks!

Dropping TC numbers is perfectly normal. It’s just 24p footage w/ regular 29.97 timecode. If you like, you can change the TC to 24-base by using “Modify->Timecode” in Final Cut.

Not sure why you ran it through Cinema Tools. The footage is already 23.98. Hit Command-I in QT Player to confirm it is 23.98 and you captured it properly.

Also check in FCP’s browser to see what the framerate is.

thats what it sounds like- your tape master was 29.97 rather than 23.98

was it captured via SR or HD cam?
what are the master tapes labeled as ?

what do the clips say in the browser:?\
