  • FCP dropping frames on capture when using DVI switcher

    Hi all,

I feel like I’ve been able to do this in the past. I have two MacPros attached to a Gefen DVI switcher (only one monitor is setup to switch between the machines). As I begin a capture on Machine 2, I switch to Machine 1 and the capture on Machine 2 drops frames and stops the capture.

    My specs:
-capturing to an Xsan 4.5TB, with prores 4:2:2, 720×486, 29.97fps
    -FCP version 6.05, QT 7.6, OS 10.5.6
-Machine 2 has a dedicated mouse and keyboard attached, plus the mouse/keyboard attached via the switcher (note, Machine 2 does NOT have its own display)

    any ideas?
    Thanks
    Michaelle

nope, I let it run for almost 20 minutes without a dropped frame before I had to stop the capture, so I know that there is not a problem with the scratch disks or the computer itself, at least in this case.

Does it do the same thing if you do not switch?

I use the same DVI switcher, but would never consider switching during capture. I haven’t had capture issues with it so it is clearly a problem switching during a critical operation like capture.
