FCP doesn’t prompt match sequence settings to imported files
Hi folks,
First time posting.
I have a 1hr 20min mp4 (h.264, 1152×864, 15fps, 22.05khz, Square pixel, No field dom) that only needs titles at the front and to have 6 minutes cut off the beginning. No transitions, no fx, nothing fancy.
I found a tutorial that said I shouldn’t have to render if I can match the sequence settings to the file settings. All the tutorials that I view show FCP prompting upon import to match the settings but my FCP does not do that.
I tried to go in to change the settings manually but I cannot change the Frame rate from 29.97(sequence) to 15(file). FCP says it will ignore the change I tried to make and that I should use “editing timebase” which is a drop-down menu as far as I can tell. However, the menu does not offer 15 as an option. Also sometimes the menu is not available.
So now I’m 3 hours and 66% of the way into the file being recompressed by media manager to prores422 but I think this should not be necessary.
Can anyone offer advice? Thanks.
