  • FCP does not play Video, Only plays Audio – Need Both

    SYMPTOMS:
When Importing my P2 Footage, I can see the Clip, but when I click the clip to View the Video, nothing shows up in the FCP viewer. I have FCP 5.1.4. I can import the clip to my timeline. I can hear audio, but the Video screen shows WHITE – no footage.

    VERIFIED FOOTAGE IS GOOD:
I thought there may be a problem with the video files. They are in the CONTENT folder “Video.” I checked the footage on P2 Contents Management Software. When “Ingesting” the footage on this system, I can see the Video and hear the Audio with no problem.

    QUESTION
How can I import the footage for editing to FCP?

My thinking is that somehow the codec is missing from FCP…because typically when you can hear a clip but not see it, that is the case…you don’t have the codec. I suggest installing FCP again…on top of what you already have…and see if it installs the missing codec. You might need to install the updates again, but I am not sure about that.

I have done installs on top of software before and it worked…but wait for other suggestions first. If this messes up FCP, then you’ll need to reformat the hard drive and install the OS and FCS from scratch.

What happens if you open the clip in QT Player?

How did you import the footage in FCP?

Anyone check to make sure that the Viewer or Canvas are not set to just show alpha? Click the drop down menus in the center of each and choose RGB

I checked the viewer and canvas and am still having the same problem. Do you think reinstalling FCP might really help. Thanks,

I don’t know how to open it with Quick Time. I can open the video in QT, but then the audio is missing.
