  • FCP Deinterlace Sony XDCAM EX 1080i50fps to 1080p25fps?

    Hello there,

I have shot a project using Sony’s XDCAM EX at 1080i50fps on FCP. When I export the movie using the any codec with 1080i50fps and play the movie the interlaced lines are very visible.

I am just now rendering a new timeline where I’ve set the field dominance to none and added the FCP deinterlace tool. Having read these forums now I’m now sensing that wont help?

Is there anything I can do to remove the interlace lines? This video is going to be on the clients website, not for TV.

Any help would be much appreciated!

    Cheers.

For web use deinterlace is appropriate. I use and recommend Nattress deinterlace plugins. Others will have similar recommendations. The FCP deinterlace is primitive and basically throws away some resolution and doesn’t have adjustable blending modes that can help individual shots.

An alternative is to deinterlace when you export through Compressor which has good deinterlace but it is generic to the whole file and not shot specific.

Without wanting to sound completely inept how do I get the deinterlace involved in Compressor? Should I just pick a progressive codec or something?

    Thank you very much.

    Hi Gary,
You need to set “Control Frame: ON”, then select Progressive in the Field Order filter.
