FCP Crossfade Question…
Posted by Jon Downs on May 6, 2005 at 1:57 pmhello. this may be a silly question…but i’m wondering if there is a setting to make a one second crossfade dissolve work with two shots that do not have any overlapping footage…for example, snipping a clip, and insterting a crossfade (the two segments would automatically move to allow the one second crossfade). thanks.

May 6, 2005 at 2:15 pmIf you do not have enough media at the end of your clip for a dissolve:
I suggest that you make a STILL-FRAME on the last frame of your clip and fade THAT out for as long as you want.
-OR-
Change the SPEED of your clip (slow-mo) and that will allow for a longer fade-out length.
-OR-
Go back to your original tape and CAPTURE a longer clip (make the OUT-point LATER)
and then edit this longer clip in instead of the one you’re using now. -

May 6, 2005 at 2:18 pmwell, here is my issue. i’d like to capture an entire tape, split it out with DV Start/Stop, and add a crossfade between every shot. so i need some way of doing it fast, because the tapes are over an hour long each.

You can put the second clip on v2 and overlap it for the length of dissolve you want, and use the opacity band on the top clip.

May 6, 2005 at 2:39 pmThen you might want to do this in iMovie.
I just read that the latest version will automatically place a dissolve at every start/stop point on the imported tape if you choose this option. -
