This morning FCP has started crashing not allowing me to work at all. It crashes three ways: 1) upon opening FCP; 2) if I do get FCP loaded, it crashes halfway thru opening my project file; 3) if I do get my project open, it crashes when I go to do a “save as.”

I have done a software update, trashed preferences, repaired permissions. Thinking I may have had a corrupted project file, I opened an Auto-Saved project file. It crashed too. (Both project files link to the same media though – corrupted footage a possibility?)

Is it time to re-load FCS? Other thoughts? Thanks!

(I am running 10.4.11 on a 2.33 Ghz MacBook Pro. FCP 6.0.6) Snow Leopard and the new FCS is sitting on my shelf waiting for the bugs to die off).

I think you have corrupted media. When FCP does open, don’t save it, just look at the clip in the timeline that the playhead is parked on. Delete that clip.

    Then try again.

This is one reason why I Uncheck “Open last project” during launch because this creates an endless loop of crashes when you have corrupted media.

You can also bypass the last project open by holding “Shift” as FCP opens. Get you out of that crashing loop.

    Thanks for your thoughts guys.

Actually, I did not have my project open when I shut down FCP, so that wasn’t part of the problem.

I was not able to get my project file to open. Thinking that I had a bad media file, then, I ended up transferring all my media to a different drive, which allowed me to open my project. Then one by one I had to re-link my files until it crashed. Once I found that file, I got rid of it. All’s well now.

Thanks again for taking the time to help!
