FCP Crashes on start up. Please help me!
Posted by Mike Armstrong on February 3, 2009 at 12:23 amHi,
I am running Final Cut Studio 2 (latest updates) on Leopard 10.5.6
Today I tried to start up FCP and it crashed on start up.
It crashes while trying to load Atom Strand.HD
The error message I get it “The application FCP quit unexpectedly. The Problem may have been caused by the Ozone Plug-in.
It was working this morning. The only thing I did was used a program called “clean my mac” to clean up wasted space.
Can anyone help me, please?
Thank you

February 3, 2009 at 12:45 amHave you tried trashing your FCP preferences? I would give that a go and see if that clears up your problem.

February 3, 2009 at 12:46 amI tried trashing my preferences and my render cache. Still will not load up.
It gets to the “loading master templates” part of the start up and quits on “atom strand.hd”

February 3, 2009 at 12:51 amHave you tried looking at the Atom Strand.HD template? It is possible there is corruption there that is causing the crash… Perhaps try moving all of the “Atom Strand.HD” associated files out of the Motion templates folder and attempt to start up with them gone.

February 3, 2009 at 12:55 amWhere would I find the motion template folder?

February 3, 2009 at 1:00 amI found the folder: I took out the Atom Strand.HD content & it loaded until the next template.
It seems to be a problem with All of the templates from 3D text Projects. –It is ALL of the Motion Template Files
Would simply re-installing motion solve my problem?

February 3, 2009 at 1:54 amReinstalling Motion might do the trick. I’ve honestly never actually come across this, but if you can afford to reinstall, it definitely couldn’t hurt. Otherwise, if you don’t actually use those templates, you theoretically could just remove them…

February 3, 2009 at 2:02 amI just saw this tool on Shane Ross’s blog.
It is a FCS uninstaller, complete uninstaller.

May 18, 2009 at 4:58 amHi
I had the same problem today just after I used the application called “Clean My Mac”. So I guessed it was related to some frameworks’ folder. I solve it this way:
1. Control click the Motion App and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu.
2. Go to the Frameworks/Ozone.framework/ folder.
3. Delete the file called “Ozone”.
4. Go to the Frameworks/Ozone.framework/Versions/A/ folder. Pressing Alt and Command keys together than click and drag the file “Ozone” to the “Frameworks/Ozone.framework/” folder, creating an alias from the original Ozone file.
5. Open the Final Cut and I hope it works to you.All the best!

August 25, 2009 at 2:25 pmI am having the same issue but no solution. I can’t fine the ozone.framework folder under my login. If I login as admin, then everything is fine and FCP runs great. I installed the suite under my login, as I have for all software, without issue. If I create a new user, that user CAN run FCP just fine. So I reinstalled FCP from version 5 to the current new version. Everything is great until the current suite is installed and then I lose the ability to run FCP. All other programs in the suite run fine. It seems to be a permissions issue maybe. I have run fix permissions. This issue only appears when 7 is installed. Any help on where to look would be greatly appreciated.

May 25, 2012 at 5:44 pmI know this is an ancient thread, but I’m experiencing the same issue. Nothing helps, yet. I’ve reinstalled FCP7 from the group up a few times and the problem persists (crashing while loading Master Templates). I’ll post if I find a solution.
