When sending multiple timelines to Compressor, I wind up with quite a few tabs (“untitled 2,” “untitled 3,” etc.) in that program. This seems unnecessarily cumbersome, especially when submitting the jobs one-by-one to the Batch. Is there a way to send subsequent timelines to the same tab in Compressor?

(I like to send the timelines directly from FCP; I’m aware that you can avoid the multiple-tab problem by going directly from Finder to Compressor.)

Yup, that is annoying, isn’t it? And I find the separate dialogs when you quit Compressor that ask if you want to save your settings for each tab annoying, too.

If you select multiple sequences in FCP’s browser window and send them all at once, it will put them all in one tab for you.

Nope cannot be done any other way if you send them one at a time, in fact I cannot send multiple timelines to Compressor any more. This stopped for me when I upgraded to FCS2. What versions of FCP and Compressor are you using.

[Bob Cole] “When sending multiple timelines to Compressor,”

I stopped using the “Export using Compressor” option quite a while ago, because I hated the way it tied up FCP during the entire process. Instead I create reference quicktime files that I bring into compressor from Finder. Then I can add as many files as I like to a batch, and I can keep working in FCP even after I submit the job. I’ve been quite happy with this workflow, your mileage may vary.

At the moment I’m trying to teach myself enough AppleScript and Automator to create a watch folder that will automatically compress any file I export to it from FCP and the upload the resulting file to an FTP site.

Have you had any luck with this since your post?

No, but the suggestions sound good.

I apologize for not replying about my software version: FCS 2, all current. Or it was until the upgrade.
