    hi everybody

around 40 minutes will be shot on two Sony Z1 Cameras (so around 80 minutes
    footage) HDV will be produced.
I need to output to a DVD (playable on regular DVD Players) and one (or maybe
two, one with a lower and one with a higher datarate) Versions of the same
clip to use on the web (or even upload to youtube or so).

Editing will be done via Decklink HD extreme > FCP6 > Compressor > DVD Studio
    pro.

from the Timeline I guess I will “export using compressor”, then burn in DVD
    Studio Pro.

    1) which Codec would you suggest for best result? (the schrinking of the final
videos for web is done in Compressor right?)

    2) what setting in Compressor for the DVD encoding (what I dont really
understand is how it works that out of my 16:9 content (in HDV its anamorphic
1440×1080, right?) into a dvd that replays as letterboxed on a normal 4:3
screen and authentic 16:9 on a widescreen. How to do?

    3) as I understand the manuals I dont need to render a quicktime from FCP but
can go directly with the whole timeline in > Compressor > DVD Studio, right?

As you can see I don’t have any experience in this whole workflow, so feel
free for any suggestions or enlighting comments.

    thx …Gunnar

Don’t be afraid to experiment. Nothing’s going to blow up. It’s the best way to learn this stuff.

    1. Compressor has presets that are spelled out for you. “DVD Best Quality” is a good start.

    2. DVDs are always 720×480. Compressor will automatically flag it for anamorphic if the source is meant to be 16:9. DVD Studio Pro will recognize that flag when you import it and make an anamorphic track automatically. But you can change it to 4:3 letterbox if you want.

    3. It would have taken you less time to try it than it has for me to type this. The answer is yes.

Here’s a great tutorial that might help with some tips about bitrate and audio.

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/compressor2_custom_presets.html

Export out of FCP as a QT movie reference file (not self-contained). Then import that into Compressor, it’s much faster than exporting directly to Compressor. (Don’t ask, nobody seems to know why) Plus, it lets you continue to work in FCP while compressor is running in the background.

    hi Sean,

you might be right that it would have taken me less time to try out then you tiping.

But therefore I would have needed to have the MAC available (which I don’t) before I actually have to start editing.
Sencondly I got some very usefull statement about rather exporting to a reference Quicktime, then to “send to Compressor” directly.

So I’d assume to me and maybe other people who might read this thread asking that thing was usefull…. Thanks for the comments.
