I have a 2 hour timeline with audio which shouldn’t have to be rendered anyway– it’s dv media which was captured via firewire using a dv preset in a “dv preset” timeline. However, for whatever reason, some clips, but not all are showing up with an “aud rate” of 47999.6 instead of 48k (wtf??) Anyway, When I render the timeline, (with a nested sequence) and make an edit that doesn’t affect the clip at all (ie, move it up or down in the sequence) the entire thing becomes unrendered. Is this SOP? It seems insane that FCP has no ability to keep track of when you need to rerender media. (And loses track of rendered media for no apparent reason. This is totally broken, right??

Because of your audio anomaly your media does not match your timeline. I’ve seen the same deal with some tapes shot with a Pnay camera. The best solution is to covert your media to DV with 48khz audio using QT conversion or possibly media manager.

Does it know not to transcode the video? I surely wouldn’t want to recompress my dv just because somewhere there’s a glitch in the process.

Interesting you say panasonic. I use a panasonic (2500?) deck to ingest, but the footage came from a sony DVCAM initially.. Never had problem #1 with my avid and this config… So I assume it’s a bug (#4007 I’ve encountered in my 6 weeks since switching) The grass is always greener….

In theory, if you’re using QT conversion and converting to the same video format there should be no compression involved. I’m fairly certain that’s the case.

BTW, for the record, I had the problem with a Pany deck too, but I assumed it was the camera. I’ll bet its the deck.
