I have been onlining a series on Avid Symphony Nitris for about 2 years now. The online is now moving to FCP, great for me as I’m a huge fan. A lot of the show is blue/green screen interviews and using Spectra matte in Nitris you can pull some great keys. I need to get the same result in FCP. The Blue screen source is Digi Beta (ProRes 422 Pal)
I’ve downloaded trial versions of both Boris and DVmatte pro and to be honest they do seem to be lacking.

The best key I have pulled though is through FCPs own chroma keyer.
With some tweaking I’m nearly there. This does surprise me or maybe it should not.
Does anyone else have success with this keyer or are the
other plug-ins better and I’m just missing it.

    Thanks for any help.
    Danny.

Primatte in Motion is great. And there is Keylight for FCP available.

    Danny,

I just finished an edit using the FCP keyer. I had downloaded all sorts of trial software Keyers in preparation for this edit. It seemed that checking out all the other key software made me aware of just what might be possible with FCPs keyer.. And I am very pleased with the results of just using FCP keyer.

In fact I want to take some time and go back into the edit and try some different options with FCP keyer to see if it I can make the keys better yet.. Something tells me that FCP keyer is not expected to be good, so nobody gives it credit. It might not be as intuitive as some of the others. But something tells me it has all the parts necessary to get the job done.

Digital Film Tree’s ZMatte is pretty good. I also like Conduit, from DV Garage. It includes 2 or 3 keyers, but it’s much more than that.

Far and away, though, my favorite for keying is using Keylight in Shake.
