I have been working with this set up for over a year and have had no problems. I do understand that does not mean it was ever correct. That is what I am trying to find out now. Nothing has been changed and that is what is puzzling me. Ofcourse I will hire a video engineer if I cannot solve the problem. I do not feel I am wasting my time trying to learn about the set up and “fix it myself”. My productivity is not at a halt and the suggestion AJA offered does work when I need to dub masters, but I know it is incorrect. I should not have to switch around settings. That is what my boss believes to be true, but you stated he is incorrect in a previous post and AJA is correct. Bob Zelin is saying I should not be switching, never should. Is he incorrect also? Or did I misunderstand your post?
I REALLY appreciate your posts and help. It is hard to relay this through written text… but I do appreciate the help. That is why I am here posting in this forum. I want to learn… I need to learn… how else will I be the hero and not just the editor? 🙂
Thank you,
Angelina -

you do not have to do anything. Thank God for the internet. I found a picture of the back of a Sony PVM-1944Q monitor. Look at the back of your monitor. See the EXT SYNC BNC connectors ? Above that is a RCA audio input, and to the right of that is a small switch that says RGB-COMPO.
Your switch is currently to the left – on RGB. Push the switch to the RIGHT – to COMPO (this is component or analog beta component input). NOW when you select component on the front panel of the monitor, you will get the CORRECT COLORS, but you must have the AJA selected to BETA COMPONENT, NOT RGB. NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER AGAIN select RGB for ANYTHING, and make sure that ALL of your gear (that has a choice) is selected to component, and not RGB.Now that you are switched to COMPO on the back of the montior, when you do the easy setup to Betacam 8 bit uncompressed (which will make the video output Y R-Y B-Y, and not RGB) – your colors will be CORRECT, and your Beta VTR will be fed the correct signal, and you will monitor the correct signal.
ONE SIMPLE SWITCH.

Did you ever consider looking at the manuals for the monitor or other gear? In most cases there are wiring flow charts included which detail examples.
You keep repeating that nothing has changed but the results you receive are incorrect. Stop denying that “nothing has changed” and assume that indeed something you are not aware of has been altered and you need to track down where the “break in the chain is.”
Learning how to troubleshoot requires taking a critical look at diagnosing each individual piece of equipment to discover where the “break in the chain” is. Checking the input switches on the monitor would have been the first place to start. Followed by the cables routing from the vtr to the monitor as well as switches on the vtr.
FYI some monitors are dual format input (ie RGB and YRB component) dependent on where the switch is set to. It is vital to confirm that the setting are correct for the signal you are feeding the monitor or vtr.
Good luck,
Tony Salgado
