FCP – Change lists, EDLs, and XMLs
Do you know anything about change lists and edl and xml’s that generate the change lists?
Cause this is the deal. The change list is showing huge dialogue gaps where there are none. I’ve ran into problems also with the EDL saying timecode was off or clips didn’t have reel names. I took out all miscellaneous clips, the flashbulb stills, the porn comps, anything that could be a red flag. When that didn’t show a result, I looked at sound and sure enough there’s a bunch of the sound that had no reel name.
My best guess is that is the problem – meaning I suppose I’d have to go back through both the assembly AND the current cut and name all the reels he did not name. And I supposed I’d have to make sure they were named exactly the same. But I don’t want to start messing around and be wrong, not to mention the amount of time it’s going to take.
Have you ever heard of this happening? Any ideas?

Lots of things need proper reel and timecode info – EDLs and Media Manager. Bouke Vahl has some software to batch add/ change reel and timecode info.

changing or adding reel#s in FCP is very easy, too.
as you have locked off and tidied up your timeline, it;s even easier
copy your timeline/s into anew project,
select your sequences, and go to TOols Menu > Create MAster CLips.this will give you a more manageable collection of the clips you have used.
in the browser, sort by the “Type” column, and the “tracks” column to help you organise those clips into video, audio & graphics bins.then dive into the Reel column and start naming things.
if you want to give specific reel#s, then the “Source” column might help you.
if you cant be bothered, and just want to give any old reel#, then add a generic “REEL” (or whatever) to one clip,
then select all reel-liss clips, (sort by reel column) right click on one,
and chose the new “REEL” reel from the list.nick
