  • FCP can’t edit drop frame dvc pro hd?

    Hi All

    I need to edit a programme on Final Cut for National Geographic Channel and the Final delivery master needs to be 59.94 drop frame.

    The programme will be shot on Panasonic Varicam.

    When I read the Final C Pro’s Working with high definition formats DVC PRO-HD section it states that;

    Drop frame timecode is not supported when capturing 720p DVC PRO HD.When recording 720p DVC PRO HD footage you should only use non drop frame timecode.

    My final master has too be 59.94 drop frame, the shoot hasn’t started yet.

    Any suggesting about solving this problem.

    Thand for any advice

    Zee 🙂

    Yep. You need to figure out what the NDF timing is, so that when you output to tape it will come out right. Here:

    I find it odd that FCP will not allow for a DF timeline for DVCPRO HD 720p. So until it is worked out, this is the workaround I use.

    I had a program where half the footage was shot in 1080i drop frame and the other half in 720P nondrop frame. After learning what you did, my solution was to capture everything in 1080idrop frame to begin with. The deck I use is able to convert from 720P to 1080i so when it gets into FCP it all looks the same. Ive been using that way ever since.
