    Hi all,

I am fairly new to FCP. I have a Canon xl1 and initially was having “out-of-sync” audio issue (I found out that whenever I capture a large file, the audio someone goes out-of-sync, so I kept my capture to under 10 min until I figure out). Anyways, while I was playing with various settings, I set the BWF Import to Non-Drop. I did about 1 hours of captures and then I found out that the xl1 is uses Drop-Frame.

    My question is:
Q: If I switch the BWF Import back to Drop (from Non-Drop), would I have problems during my edits? Should I kept my 1 hrs worth of capture or should I start my capture over? Note: When I look at the time frames of the already captured clips it has 0:00:00;00 (semi colon at the end which indicates it is captured as drop frame)

    Any help appreciated!

bwf means Broadcast Wav file. When you capture from the camera you are generating quicktime files. The setting in your sequence prefs deals only with importing wav files that have the broadcast extensions in the header for timecode information.

Unless you are importing the audio as separate double system files from a device that generates bwfs, those settings are not relevant to your captures.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for the info. Now I can proceed with capturing without any hesitation.

The important consideration when capturing is to make sure the settings match – frame rate, frame size and timecode. There should be an easy setup that matches your tape specs but double check the timecode DF or NDF settings in the easy setup and the sequence before capture and edit to avoid problems.
