I have notice while loading my HDV footage shot on my sony FX1 that when you load footage it is impossible to load a whole tape without timecode breaks unless you NEVER stopped record throughout the entire tape.
I do not see the timecode break while viewing the timecode on the camera LCD… Why is final cut seeing a break when I cannot?

    THANKS!!!

They are not time code breaks. You should educate yourself about the format you are working with. Because HDV is MPEG based video, it has a GOP structure. The GOP or group of pictures has 1 full frame or iFrame, all other frames do not contain full information and are based off of the iFrame.

FCP by default breaks HDV video each time you start and stop the camera because the last GOP is not always a full GOP.

I believe that there is a way to turn it off (if you search the forums I am sure you will find it) I personally like it so I do not turn it off.

Yeh, by dubbing the tape to another with continuous timecode.

That may be the case, like I said I actually like how FCP does that, so I have NEVER looked for a way to turn it off.

if you are capturing HDV direct through Firewire “Start/Stop Detect” is on by default. this will make a new clip with every start/stop of the record function. it rocks.

to turn it off, go to the Log and Capture window, open the Capture settings tab, and un-check Start/Stop Detect.

this feature only works when in DV or HDV firewire capture mode. Start/Stop Detect isnt available under the other Easy Setups.
