Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy fcp and x11?

  • Posted by Baba Goof on January 6, 2007 at 11:37 pm

there are a couple of apps i’d like to run on my fcp system
that require x11 (openoffice, gimp). how does this work
with final cut? would i just run fcp under x11? would i have
to switch between aqua and x11?

my setup is three monitors for working, the left and center
would be for fcp, but i’d like to keep the right monitor open
for use with peripheral apps like openoffice or gimp. it
would be great to be able to have both fcp and one or both of
these others open and running at the same time.

    thanks,
    BabaG

X11 runs alongside OSX. Some of the more techno-minded here might be better suited to explain how that works. I just know it does.

Provided you have sufficient RAM, you can have FCP running as normal under OSX, and have GIMP open as well in X11. I’ve done it successfully many times.

Neooffice is an opensource OSX native app ported from openoffice. Works great in 10.4.8. Not sure about Gimp and others, but check the open source web sites. A lot of opensource stuff is getting portted to OSX with mixed success. I tried Scribe (page layout) for OSX. It was pretty sluggish.

tried neooffice a while back. it’s a bit funky, or was then.
the openoffice folks are working on an aqua version of ooo
but says on the site it’s still a couple of months off so
    who knows.

There’s no conflict between X11 & FCP. You should install X11 from your Panther or Tiger install disk. Make sure that the version of X11 matches your version of OS X.
