first, I’ve already searched and haven’t found the answer I want. Thanks.

I need to view the clips (or listen to them) and be able to type at the same time. There seems to be no easy way to do this in FCP nor is there anything in the manual.

I got MacSpeech Scribe and can’t figure out how to edit their bad transcription. It would actually work, if after it transcribed a clip I was able to playback audio and make corrections. But it doesn’t work like that. (out $100)

And so I’m back to FCP. I have digital files imported from a P2 card. I have also exported the files as .aif files. If anyone has any ideas I’d be happy to hear them.

Open the aifs or QTs in QTPlayer and press play. Go back to word or whatever software you’d like to use and start typing.

Checkout pgs 21 & 22 in the manual. It might help you out. Also, there may be foot pedal available to control playback. Check with tech support about that.

My solution was this: set up a separate laptop/computer to transcribe on,that way you can pause the footage rather than having to switch apps all the time, it also meant you could type at your own pace. Even better if you have someone sitting next to you who could control FCP.

I also applied a timecode generator from the effects bin onto the selected clips, seeing large type TC at a glance made life a lot easier.

thanks, this is a good idea too. Not sure I’m sure how the tc effect works, but I’ll check it out. Thanks. Geralyn

    Hi,

Zeit Anker, maker of a great subtitling application named Annotation Edit, bundles it with Annotation Transcriber which is just what you may be looking for.

Download the demo of AE and you will be able to use AT since it is free software.

    Hope this helps,

    Patrice

I’d second the second laptop approach. As an added bonus you can then use a wireless keyboard as a foot pedal.
