FCP and Sony and Firewire
So for budget reasons it looks like I’m getting an iMac to run FCP. Now granted its going to have the i7 processor, 8gigs RAM, ATI 5750 card, etc. Now my Sony DSR40 deck has firewire out; question is even though its an older deck will it work with the iMac and FCP? The other problem is the iMac has only one firewire port and the G-Raid storage drive supports USB but I would rather use its firewire capabilities. Can the one port on the iMac be expanded?

You should not have any trouble going FW800 to your Gdrive then looping out of the Gdrive FW800 to FW400 on the DSR40. DV or DVcam is not very heavy ( 25 mb/s or about 3.2 mB/s ).

Hmmm when I get the whole thing set up my next question will be how to loop it.
