    Hello,

I am on the verge of buying a new intel 20″ imac to do mostly some DV editing using FCP.. and want to know if i need the 256 video ram or can i do fine with the stock 128 VRAM?? I realize that the 256 meg VRAM is useful for things like 3D graphics etc.. but not sure how much of a role it plays for your display when video editing..?? What about for using motion 2 ??

We may occasional use for some HDV stuf.. but the bulk will be DV..

Of course we will add more Ram to the machine, and also i am aware thet it currently is using Rosetta, but in a month or so the Universal Binary version of FCP will be ready for this machine..

    thanks,
    mike moncrief

Personally I would invest in a Dual Proc. G5.

    1) The VRAM upgrade will help a lot with Motion. Not much at all with DV in FCP. I’d suggest it, though, because it will help the system overall. So although it’s not helping with the DV directly, it’s making the system itself faster which leads to less hang-ups and waiting WHILE you’re editing DV.

    2) You’re going to be waiting for the Universal FCP anyway. The current one does not work under Rosetta.
