  • FCP and Motion rendering problem?

    Hi everyone,

I’ve been using motion for a while now, but i seem to have some kind of settings error, since every time i drag a motion project straight into my FCP sequence and render it, any movement of shapes, text etc becomes ‘jittery’ or ‘flickery’.
A way i have found to reduce it is to apply the flicker filter to clip, but i shouldn’t need to do that!

I don’t get the problem if i export the files from motion as a .mov and re-import them, but I need to use some alpha layers in this project, so have been importing motion files directly.

Has anyone experienced this? Do you know the magic setting that i’ve got wrong?

I’ve tried modifying the render settings in the sequence settings in FCP. Both Motion and FCP are set to render lower field first. Footage is DV-PAL.

FYI: Mac G5, dual 1.8. Tiger + Final Cut Studio.

The .motn file will have properties. Check them. Post back.

    Thanks for your response.

    Project Properties:
    preset: PAL DV
    w:720, h:576

    Bit depth: 8 bit
Pix aspect ration Pal D1/DV 1.07
    Field Order: Lower First

    Frame rate 25

    Render Settings Tab
    Motion Blur – samples 8
    Shutter Angle – 360

    Output – antialiasing – Normal.

Is that what you needed to know?

turn off the Motion Blur and then reverse the field settings.
    See what happens.

“Jittery” is very subjective and it depends where you’re seeing the artifact, on the computer or on a video output device. Without sitting over your shoulder, it’s really hard to know where to start except to recommend a simple test. One object. Move it across the screen. Move down the screen. Render. Evaluate.
Change the settings in Motion. Render and evaluate.
go back to the original and import it. Change the settings in FCP.
Bring in the second file, do the same thing. Tedious.

Also suggest you insert a layer of text that includes labels describing your project settings. You cannot keep them straight in your brian without the labels.
