March 28, 2011 at 12:27 pmI’m an FCP user, editor, and consultant in helping sell the Alexa in my country. I have ready access to an Alexa, and multiple FCP systems of various vintages, and some very new ones too.
About the LUTs within FCP via a filter, I second the concern about long render times. If it’s any help, I think Blackmagic cards permit using a LUT during monitoring. Not sure if these permit colours to be baked in the HDSDI output, but one can try.
Also the HD-Link Pro allows LUTs to be loaded. This could have some potential for on-set monitoring without needing render.
If you’d like to test I’d love to be of help. But I’m in India.

March 28, 2011 at 12:47 pmHi Neil,
I’m in Hyderabad right now with the new Mistika real-time 4K DI set-up we have built at Annapurna…
As for FCP and Alexicc, you batch process, so the speed can be above real-time.
We use LUTs for calibration all the time, and FCP can’t use LUT unless with Color.
Also the output cards cannot feed back the LUT output, or change the LUT on a clip-by-clip basis, as you need with Alexa footage for dailies.
We have a new version of Alexicc on test that automatically selects the correct LUT (ICC profile) based on the camera metadata. This is very cool.
You going to NAB? You really should come see Mistika – Park Road Post have 6 now! And you know what film they are working on :o)
