FCP and HVX200 files.
I was wondering if anybody knew how FCP processes 720/24p or 30p overcranking and undercranking done on a HVX200. Apparently complient NLEs (which FCP is supposed to be) can process the footage so that true high speed and slow motion effects can be used. Any thoughts?

If you shoot 60P, then capture that 60p footage into FCP. You will then need to download the DVCPRO HD FRAME RATE CONVERTER from Panasonic. You then use that to convert the 60P footage into a new clip running at 23.98 or 29.98…a frame for frame transfer…that will yield fantastic slow motion results.
I haven’t done fast motion with FCP, the 4fps stuff. I have with the Varicam, but that required a speed change.

Thanks for the tip Shane, I’m going to try it out right now… just a quick question though, is it worth the upgrade cost right now for FCP 5.1.1?

is there anything i can do to process recordings of other frame rates such as 48, or even 12p?

The DVCPRO HD FRAMERATE CONVERTER should be able to work with the 48fps stuff as well. Hmmm…I don’t have any 12fps or 4 fps footage to paly with to see if it converts that up to 23.98 and speeds it up. I might have to get my Producer to shoot some footage for me to test.
And FCP 5.1.1 doesn’t add anything new for P2 support. So you won’t gain anything in that area. But it is useful for other reasons, like the imporved media manager. So it is up to you.

I think there is supposedly a new plug in for the P2 importer in FCP that allows for the removal of duplicate frames?… i could be mistaken, but doesn’t the existing one that you told me to download from Panasonic (frame rate converter) give you this option too?
