    Hey guys,

Stunned with the results people is getting with DSLR footage, decided to buy one. Bought a 550D as a testing camera and I am quite happy so far. Problem: Can’t get footage into FCP.

I have a PC runing premier and works just using the SD slot on the laptop. It allows me to capture, view and edit with no problem. However if I try to do the same on FCP I get nothing. It is like if the camera is not being recognize by the system which seems odd. Using the canon software I can see and transfer stills with no problem. Video footage just wont play nor transfer .
I have been checking around forums and stuff, got the modified canon plugin for FCP and just get no positive resutls.

Any suggestions how can I transfer this footage in order to work on them? I know that once transfered to the Mac I will have to convert to Prores using compressor as that seems to be the recomended workflow. Just need to get to that point.

I was thinking also it might be a problem with how the card its being read, Should I get a SD card reader? I have never had any problems with my EX-1, but will like to have a comment on that before getting one…

As always thanks much for the help

(I run FCP on a Macpro or/and Imac using the USB canon cable to connect the camera to the Computer)

If you’re not having problems getting your computer to mount the card, then watch this:

Yep I have seen that one, and I have make the required changes to the plugin in oder to (in theory) work with the T2i/550d. Still no luck.

If I connect via usb/miniusb cable my EX-1 the 2 cards on the camera pop up on my desktop as untitled (1 and 2) If i connect the same way my DSLR I get nothing. Therefore the Log and transfer shows nothing at all.

ohhhhh, so you’re having problems getting the card to mount. I gotcha.

Ummm….so you’re trying to mount the card from your DSLR by connecting the DSLR to your Mac, right? All I can tell ya is that I have a Canon Rebel at home that I shoot photos with (doesn’t shoot video), and my CF card does not mount onto my desktop either if I try to connect my Rebel to my Mac via USB. I never really cared though, and never tried to fix it, because I have a CF card reader and just always used that successfully.

Sorry I don’t have a solution for mounting the card with the DSLR though

Yep… I’m almost certain at this point that the DSLR trough USB will just not mount… Still worth to ask of anyone has been able to make it work..

Get a $20 SD to USB card reader. When you get the card to mount, and it will, then back it up, like I said in the tutorial.

THEN import into FCP. Never ever ever import directly from the card into FCP. EVER.
