I am getting a new 17” MacBook Pro with FCS 2. I have a Sony PVM-20L5/1, a multiformat CRT monitor that accepts RGsB (sync-on-green) as well as Y’PbPr. If I buy a VGA to RGsB adapter, set the MacBook’s display output to sRGB and a gamma of 2.2, use FCP’s broadcast and RGB limiting filters, and calibrate the Sony with color bars, can I trust the image on the Sony for color correction at a reasonable level of confidence? Is there something else I should do?

I understand that Matrox’s MXO should be an effective bridge, but at $1,000 it is more than I can justify spending (the adapter, overpriced at $300+, is at about my limit).

Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

    Nope.

Then wait until you can afford it. The other solution will not work correctly at all.

Thanks for the quick reply. As I am trying to increase my understanding of the underlying technology, are there any explanations you have time to share?
