FCP and AE plugins
Is FCP v5 comptible with After effects plugins?
I am after a video noise reducer, and seem to find more of this type of thing available with AE.

Some are and some are not. Pretty much all third party plug-ins have free demo versions available for download for this very purpose. download it and try it in FCP. If it works, purchase it.

Walter is correct, but a pretty good noise reducer is in Joe’s Filters, and a very good one in Boris Continuum Complete, but the latter is very slow to render and quite expensive.

If you look at the Apple page in the first column near the bottom, three bullet points before the Tools header it indicates yes–Apple – Final Cut Studio – Final Cut Pro 5 – Technical Specifications
After Effects Portal: Plug-in Summary has a FCP Compatible subheading but it is dated, circa 2003.
Toolfarm – Plug-in FAQ has a little blurb on it two thirds of the way down the page.
