    Hello-
I’m importing audio files (songs) into a project. Working on FCP 4.5 / on G5. The AIFF files appear to be importing hot. I’m hearing a background crackle/hiss the audio meter brings levels to 0. I’ve played the track on another player & it plays clean / crisp. Any thoughts? Does FCP prefer WAV to AIFF files if I have a choice? Also, I’m dragging the files from an extrenal drive & dropping them in Browser. Isn’t this the same as Import function off of the File Menu?

    Thanks

Identical. (“Drag and Drop Import” is what its called.) That process will import with any settings you have chosen under the File Menu import settings.

Most CD audio IS very hot.
Just put a track in the Viewer and (even before you edit to the timeline) lower the level by between 6-12 dB.

Make sure you have converted your audio AIFF’s at 48 kHz sample rate
(and that your timeline audio rate is also 48 kHz.)

Thanks. All audio is 48KhZ import & timeline. I’ll try lowering the dBs. Thanks for your help.

And at least with FCP, you CAN lower the level in the Viewer immediately.

In Avid you must first edit to the timeline.

The CD imports can be EAR-SPLITTINGLY HOT with no relief until the clip(s) get edited-in and (finally) adjusted.

(First-time “scrubbing” can blow your ear-drums!!)
