  • FCP adding SHIFT FIELDS filter automatically when I cut and paste a sequence

Posted by Amanda Cusanelli on October 29, 2010 at 3:12 pm

Every time I cut and paste tracks from one sequence to another, FCP automatically adds a SHIFT FIELDS filter. How do I stop this? Im working with over 20 layers between the video and audio. With this filter, I have to delete from each cut and each layer… causing rendering to be a nightmare.

All suggestions will be helpful!!! Thank you

Make sure your sequence settings are matching. FCP can do this when you’re copying from a lower-field sequence to an upper or vice-versa.

I have already done this and it continues to happen. Any other ideas?

FCP will add the shift fields filter if the clip settings do not match the sequence settings. Check the field order of your source footage and the settings in the sequence.

My guess is your clips may be set incorrectly. Also are you sure that you don’t need the filter? Are you monitoring on an external monitor that shows interlace? I have not had an experience where FCP got it wrong so I suspect there is a problem which should be resolved.
