  • FCP 7/Quicktime X Aspect Ratio Issues.

    Hi all.

So basically, after upgrading to Snow Leopard (and in turn Quicktime X) I’m havign some very wierd aspect ratio issues in FCP.

So I have to make a showreel of previous projects of mine & after importing them into FCP 7 things aren’t going right.

The films were all exported as PAL 16:9 QT files from FCP6, and when I open them in QT7 they look their normal 16:9 self… however upon opening them in Quicktime X they are stretched horizontally so that they are super widescreen, distorting the image in the process.

This wouldn’t normally bother me as I can easily watch them on QT7

    BUT

When importing those files into FCP7 they’re having the same issue, showing up on the preview screens as this stretched super-widescreen image, which of course, I do not want.

I’ve looked in the video properties on QT7 (a feature stupidly missing from X) & adjusted them to be 16:9 dimensions, even after doing that, they still show up as super widescreen in QTX and FCP7.
[Does FCP7 use QTX as it’s underlying video format like FCP6 used QT7?]

Please can anyone help me out on this? This showreel is due very soon as at the moment I can’t even start since the files are such a weird aspect ratio.

In FCP in the Motion tab check if the distort settings are causing the problem. If so, you can use Remove or Paste Attributes to fix.
