    Computer Specs

    2.26 Dual Quad
    16 GB Memory
    ATI Radeon HD 4870
    FCP 7.0.3

    Footage/Timeline Specs

    Sony EX3 Footage
    Quicktime converted
    1920×1080
    29.97
    Compressor – XDCAM EX 1080p30 (35 Mb/s VBR)

I think I found the issue as I was typing this and went back to look at the sequence description.

Sequence was set to Apple ProRes444

First the drive was running off a USB 2.0 drive, then I moved it to internal drive.

I switched the sequence file to match the footage. This should make it work better.

Should there be a difference in quality with the look of the show between the two difference sequences?

Would I need to be running on at least an Firewire 800 drive for the playback to be smooth on a 444 sequence?

If FCP came out with a 64-bit version, I should be golden with the machine I have. I hate I’ve invested so much money in something that can’t use this software to it’s potential.

As I have switched to HD, any thoughts and suggestions on how to run the machine more efficiently would be very helpful.

Thanks for your time and information you provide!

    Take care,

    Josh

You need a far faster drive than FW800 for ProRes 4444. That’s a very high end codec. Why are you using that? It is way overkill for XDCAM. Regular ProRes will give you the exact same results, and will work on FW800.

USB is never good for editing, nor is the internal system drive.

Come to find out the graphics that were done for this sequence were ProRes, so my editor created a sequence file for that graphic and then edited the rest of the show within that sequence. Thanks for the info!
