  • FCP 7 XML slipped video when imported in Resolve

I ran into a quite problematic video problem while exporting my timeline from FCP 7 XML to Resolve.

I’ve been able to work around this problem and like to share my solution with you but i’d also like to know if somebody else had this problem, and maybe there is other workarounds…

My timeline was a 1hr show of a some interviews and conference, shot with 3 cameras (for multiclips). I did a prep timeline to import it into Resolve. I like to have only 1 layer of video, without any effects…

At first, everything seem to be ok with the output xml (v5) of Final Cut… but I noticed later that every clip from the first camera (during the master conference) was almost 1 sec slipped from it’s original starting point… The 2 other cams where at the good starting time.

I then tried export and import with an edl, this time, there where no video slip but every clips had a Conflict (because of the same timecode for the multiclips) and I was force to choose the good angle… (Resolve did choose the same angle all along the show…)

I tried different kind of edl export, with comment and no comment, etc, and tried to change options into Resolve into the Timeline conform option (assist using reel numbers from the:…) But seriously, it didn’t changed anything… there was always conflict and resolving them on the 1hr show was not an option…

Well, at last, I finally got this problem solved by downloading Automatick Duck Pro Export for FCP (thank you to Wes and Harry Plate for making this free!), and then make an .aaf of my timeline, loaded it in Resolve and it worked at the first time! Every cut was there, no slipped video, good angle everywhere, no conflict…

Anybody had this “slipped video” problem?
How did you manage to solve it?

    Thanks

    I have Resolve 8.1.1
    For FCP, it’s 7.0.3

For the footage, it was shot on Sony AVCHD, (I don’t know the cam model but I can verify later) log and transfer with FCP, timeline is 1920×1080 ProRes 422 23.98

What i have seen in audio mastering is that if one or meny of the framerates are mismatch you get sliping.
I.e. base material vs fcp timeline vs resolve. They have to all match.

    Can you look into this.
