Upgrading to FCP 7 – Apple updated to 7.0.3
Running OSX 10.5.8 on MacBook Pro 2.6GHz core 2 duo with 4GB ram

App launches appropriately and all the windows appear, but then it locks up with the beach ball of death.

    I’ve trashed preferences.
    Rebooted
Ran the trial version of FCS Maintenance Pack Launcher

    Still the same result.

    Any suggestions?

PS: I can open and run all other apps – Motion, DVD SP, and Soundtrack with no problems.

Most likely you upgraded over the top of FCS2, right???

If so, that’s the source of your problems.

If that’s it, you’ll either need to use FCP Remover from Digital Rebellion, then do a reinstall.

    or

Do a ground-up installation of the OS and FCS3.

Yes, installed over FCS Version 6.

I repaired permissions with Disk Utilities, and it’s up and running…for now.

Thanks for the quick reply. I might be back.

Are you opening an older project or just launching the app?

Just opening it for the first time. After repairing permissions via DIsk Utility everything seems to be fine. There were a lot of issues with disk permissions, so the installation (at least my installation) must have caused – or maybe uncovered a lot of problems.

    So far, so good.

When we upgrade from one version of studio to the next we always do a clean install. Remove all elements of the old version and install the new version fresh.

Most of the time we’ll even do a complete clean install of the OS as well so we start with a completely clean computer. Seems to create the absolute least issues.
