  • FCP 7 to FCPX XML Kinda works using CAT DV

So I exported out an xml from Final Cut Pro 7, opened it in CATDV trial version and clicked on ‘Send to Final Cut Pro X’. Alas my sequence opened up. Now a quarter of my clips didn’t show up, but the one’s that did show up are in the correct order. So I think if someone out there with some programming knowledge spent some time, they could make it work.

Out of curiosity, what exactly didn’t show up?

I echo that question. Did it only export clips up to a certain point? Were the clips all on one track? What about audio? Or did it all seem random?

What version of CAT DV are you running? Because I have v9.0 and there is no sent to Final Cut Pro X option.

You will need CatDV PRO 9.0.1. Will not work with CatDV standard version.

It worked great for me, but have not exported anything complex.

I’m really interested in how CatDV handles the conversion of media from the Final Cut 7 Browser to media in the Final Cut X event library. In particular, I’d like to know how CatDV handles the conversion from subclips in FCP7 to favorites in FCPX. I’m working on a large documentary project; I’ve subclipped all the footage in FCP7 and would now like to port the project over to FCPX, making all the subclips appear as favorites. Will this work? The one thing I’m worried about is that timecode numbers for subclips in FCP7 can overlap but timecode numbers for favorites in FCPX cannot overlap. Has anyone been able to convert FCP7 subclips to FCPX favorites using CatDV?

I slowed down a few clips and those seem to be the ones that didn’t show up.

Good info folks, you can bring range markers over as well. As it stands FCPx ignores the other markers but will pass them through the XML.
If you guys have problems be sure to bring it up on the CatDV forum as this is obviously still a work in progress!

This one does it the other way around (OMF,to Color):

That is good info as well and Philip is very knowledgeable about these workflows. CatDV will also work in reverse try exporting an xml from FCPx and import or drag and drop it into CatDV.

    Hello,

I am hoping to transfer JUST the logging notes of 200 clips from CatDV into FCP (7) without having to recreate new bins all over again, is this action possible? Basically, i want the clips to sync straight up with the logging notes instead of having to manually place all the logged clips into their individual bins again

    Any suggestions massively appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Laura
