FCP 7 Timeline into Compressor 4
Is there another way to go from an FCP 7 timeline to Compressor 4?
I tried it the following way and it did not work. It failed. When it started encoding in Compressor 4, the Progress bar was not there so I had a feeling something was was wrong.
In FCP 7
Click file –>
Click Send to –>
Click compressor –>Now that the old version of compressor is open.
Click File –>
Click Save –> (create s name of you choice)
(Save in the location you want)
Now close the old version of compressorNext find the .compressor file you just saved.
Right Click/control Click the .compressor file
mouse over to open with and you will see both the old and new versions of compressor as options
select the new version and then you can now use FCP 7 sequences with the new compressor!
The way I have it set up is I have a folder in my Applications folder that is called “FCP X.” In that folder I have FCP X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4.

i think that workaround was from the days of Compressor 4.0 but the current version of Compressor is a step too far away from anything FCP 7 can work with.
Can’t help with an alternative though – it’s been years since I had FCP 7 installed.

Nope- not possible. Use the version of Compressor that come with 7 or export directly to QuickTime from 7 then re-compress in 4.
