FCP 7 project glitches with Snow Leopard
I have recently done a clean install of Snow Leopard and then installed the new Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro 7.
I went into a recent project that I had been editing fine before upgrading to Snow Leopard and now have encountered a problem. The project will not play in the timeline. It skips every ten frames or so to the end, or just freezes up. If I try and play individual clips I get the same issue. This project is Apple ProRes 422.
As an experiment I went in and played with a demo reel that is not in Apple ProRes format and everything seemed to behave properly. The conclusion that I’ve come to is it must have something to do with the individual project.
Is it a compatibility thing with Snow Leopard (it was working just fine before the Snow Leopard update)?? Or did the installation of snow leopard get rid of something that allowed the project to work before? Some codec that I’m not aware of.

Maybe a corrupt project file or piece of media. I just finished a project on shot on the Red and transcoded to ProRes422 (HQ) for editing on a system with 10.6.3 with FCP 7.0.2 and Kona 3 7.5.1 drivers and it worked flawlessly, (all from a clean install). I’m at the tail end of cutting a feature on the same system and no hiccups either. This is about a 90 minute HD time line.
What is your RAID?

Warren is probably on the right track with his idea of a corrupt file. Could be either source, or maybe render files?
Here are a few questions.
I see your on a MBP, is your media on your system drive?After you installed SL, did you update it, or are you running the version that is on the install disc? Should be version 10.6.4
Same question for FCS? Should be 7.0.2

Did you upgrade from FCS2 aka Final Cut Pro 6 to FCP 7 at the same time you did the SL update, and was your glitching project originally created with FCP 6?Scott Sheriff

I am running 10.6.4 and I did do a pro update so I’m running 7.0.2
I am running the project off of a external hard drive. The project was initially created in FCP 6 on the MBP running Leopard. I originally did an unclean install of Snow Leopard and that is when I first encountered the “glitches” in FCP 6 on Snow Leopard. I thought the glitches were a side effect of not doing a clean install.
I did not upgrade from FCP 6 because it was not originally mine. So I uninstalled it completely and installed FCS 3 that I purchased after doing a clean install of Snow Leopard.
If it is a corrupt project file, does this mean I should rebuilt my project? Reload the clips into final cut and start anew?
Warren, I do not have a RAID? Is this something I should do?

If you are working in HD and want the throughput I’d highly recommend one.

Sounds like you did everything right.
A RAID will improve your performance, but you said this project played fine before, so here is what I would try for short term fix.Trash preferences
Repair disc permissions
delete the render files and re-render.If that didn’t work, I would take the media offline, and recapture it.
Won’t cost you anything but some time, and it might fix it.
