FCP 7 causing my system to stutter..?
Hi FCP users,
FCP is causing my system to stutter. Meaning if I play a movie or drag open a regular window it stutters. I have trashed the FCP preferences and user data. I’ve re-installed FCP Studio twice and still it happens.
I know its FCP because I have used the app ‘Maintenance’ to reset preferences and the system cache and everything works fine. I can play a movie in Quicktime and it plays as it should. Once I boot open FCP and immediately shut it down. Anything I play in QT jumps, ie, stutters.Any ideas on what i can do to fix this. I’ve been trying to fix it for over 8 hours but still no result..

You have not given any info about your system or the codec of the flies you are trying to play

I’m on an Intel 2 x 3 Ghz Duel Core Intel Mac using OS 10.6.2
I’ve been shooting on Panasonic P2 using the DVCPRO HD codec at 720P 25fps
I’ve got a RAID system which has been serving me well for over a year, even with 4K files.The strange thing is that even when I play (mp4) in Quicktime outside of FCP I still get the stuttering.
It seems that just having FCP on my system causes my Mac to be sluggish.
When I run the app ‘maintenance’ which resets preferences, etc. everything behaves correctly. Once I boot up FCP and quit immediately all the system is again sluggish.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like an OS or possibly hard drive issue.
I recommend running disk warrior.

I’ve had the system running fine for 4 months. Then suddenly its starting to stutter. Strange. I’ve now installed OSX on a separate hard drive with FCP 7 on there and reboot to edit. It works but what a pain.
