  • FCP 7 Beachball on playback – related to Compressor 4?

    Help!

Using FCP 7 on Mavericks — no problems for months. Then, a couple of days after installing Compressor 4.1.1, I run FCP 7 for the first time, and the beachball appears for several seconds before each attempt to play. After five to 15 seconds it plays with no problems, no dropped frames. But beachball appears next time I try to play.

Killed preferences, many restarts, all same problem.

Exactly the same with large project file or tiny one with a single clip. Everything prores.

    Computer itself shows no slowdown.

Read other posts, found no solutions. Can it be Compressor 4, or is that just coincidental?

Using i7 Macbook Pro, 2 firewire 800 disks that have worked perfectly.

    Thanks!

Have you tried Repair Permissions? Do you have access to DiskWarrior?

    Thanks.

Yes, I had tried repairing permissions. Didn’t help. Don’t have Disk Warrior for Mavericks.

Then I removed Compressor 4.1.1, along with its preferences.

Then Final Cut worked. (That’s what I said in the post that I removed, because I thought it was fixed.) It worked for about an hour. Enough to actually get a little work done.

Then it did it again. Beachball for a significant number of seconds each time I tried to play.

    So, still no solution.

    Any ideas?
