    Martijn,

No, FCP 7 cannot read audio timecode.
You need my app. to do so:
    https://www.videotoolshed.com/?page=products&pID=26
(And since you’ve worked for media machine, you should know this 🙂

Don’t let the ‘audio TC’ entry in XML fool you, that’s only metadata.
What Sync ‘n Link does is making XML to combine video and audio, based on metadata.

    My apps do other things:
The first app. adds a QT TC channel to the files.
(That can be normal or AUX tc)
Then there is a second application that analyzes QT files and BWF files. If there is overlap in the TC, it will paste the BWF into the QT, so you have synced clips in FCP.

Keep in mind that there is no standard of reel names in BWF, so you must keep your material organised!
(Most of the time putting everything from one shooting day in a directory will work just fine.)

    Martijn,

BoomRecorder, Mac software for recording with timecode, converts TC on any incoming track to SMPTE. Would that help?

    Ty,
Boomrecorder is not an option. (Besides, it’s discontinued.)

The whole idea is to work with cheap cams that do not have TC in / out, and record sound external on a BWF recorder.

This happens a lot around here (Netherlands, Germany)

Trick is to take the TC output of the BWF recorder and feed it to the cam’s audio track, then sync up in post.

Avid can read the audio timecode (if a reelname is assigned to the file), and then sync to the BWF’s

FCP cannot do this, hence my application.

    >>Hello Bouke and HNY. I heard recently that Take Vos will be continuing Boom Recorder. Maybe it’s not dead yet. I think he was hesitant to take on the new Mac OS.

    >>Here as well.

    >>With cameras like the Canon XL2, you can use the LANC output as a source to generate TC. Fisher makes a portable box. The Timetool L, that seems to do the trick. I haven’t tried it yet, but It may be able to drive the smpte input of a recorder like the Sound Devices 702T and 744T. https://www.fisher-robotics.com/ I know for sure you can record with BoomRecorder this way.

    >>There’s also one from TAO: https://www.spcomms.com/ltcexport/ltcexport.PDF

    >>Thanks for giving us another way to “skin the cat”, Bouke. Do you have that saying over there? It means “get the job done.”

As always, thanks for enriching this forum, your wisdom is appreciated.
